One thing that virtually every one of the workshop presenters, clinicians, experts, and celebrities we’ve had come through Sweetwater point out is that there is value to working fast — capturing inspiration while it’s hot. This requires that you have things set up and ready to go, so you can jump in and make music immediately. With a DAW, the easiest solution for doing this is to create a template for whatever it is you do; songwriting, filmscoring, composing, recording, whatever. Set it up with just what you need to do your job: a click track, virtual instruments, and blank audio and/or MIDI tracks. But don’t go overboard. The goal is to just have enough ready to go to do what you need to do to capture the ideas. Later you can go back and add other parts, experiment, and fine tune.
