“Error detection” is the process of looking for any bits of information in digital data that have been lost or compromised. Errors can arise during digitization, signal degradation either in storage or transfer to other software or hardware, or when being re-converted to analog. Digital audio errors usually manifest as silences, digital clipping noise, or identical samples causing a repeat/stutter.
