Envelope Follower

A device that converts the envelope of a signal into a control voltage. Generally the voltage output is low when the signal is low, and gradually gets higher as the signals amplitude increases. This control voltage can then be used to control some parameter that can otherwise effect the sound. It’s a handy tool for musicians because it enables the creation of effects or changes that follow the dynamics of one’s playing.
