Generally an aggregation or collection of elements connected by a series of relations. In a musical context it refers to a group of singers and/or instrumentalists who play together. This would generally be a small group – not large enough to be called a choir or orchestra. The word can also be used to help describe the quality of play or teamwork among players, as in “their ensemble was good.
