A cloth-backed, “sealed” (meaning it is made water resistant using a material such as polyethylene) adhesive tape originally designed by a division of Johnson & Johnson for sealing ammuniton cases and other military repair tasks. Duct tape has become ubiquitous as a quick-repair solution, and has even been used by NASA for emergency repairs on Apollo missions. Books have been written about it, contests are held to find the most creative uses for it, and art has been created with it…some sources even claim that it can be used as a cure for warts.
However, it is not ideal for securing cables and other stage/studio tasks as it leaves behind a sticky residue when removed. Gaffer tape is a superior solution for stage/studio duty.
