Downbend

A tremolo bar technique referring to dropping the strings’ pitch, generally by a small interval, such as a semitone or two, by depressing the bar. A downbend is not as extreme a drop in pitch as a dive bomb, which can cover huge musical intervals of an octave or more. Downbends are generally used as a part of melodic statement, as opposed to as a bombastic special effect.
