Dot Neck

This term typically alludes to the Gibson ES-335, which sported simple pearloid dots for position markers on its rosewood fingerboard beginning in 1958. By about 1963, Gibson changed the dot inlays to small block inlays, although by 1981, the company wisely began returning to using dot inlays once it was clear that those early “dot necks” were far more popular.
