Today is a big news day, particularly with respect to Universal Binary updates. MOTU just announced that the Digital Performer 5.1 Universal Binary Update is now available. The best news is that it’s available as a free upgrade to all registered Digital Performer Version 5 users. Though it doesn’t add any new features (unless you count compatibility with the newest generation of Macintosh computers to be a cool new feature) v5.1 can now be installed on either an Intel-based or PowerPC-based Mac and does provide numerous code enhancements and important optimizations on both Mac platforms. MOTU strongly recommends OS X 10.4.4 (“Tiger”) or higher. Grab your free upgrade, but keep in mind that this update requires a previous full install and authorization from DP 5 or 5.01 from the original installer CD.
