The earliest (and exceptionally slow) method of connecting to the Internet was to use existing telephone lines and a modem that, together, connected a computer to an internet service provider (ISP). In its earliest days, the Internet could hardly live up to the hype as the “information super highway,” as the only way to get connected was via a 2,400bps modem and a phone line.
