Diads

Diads are basically 2-note chords. Though we tend to think of a chord as being three notes or more, any two notes played together can technically be considered chords. Jazz players are typically well aware of the importance and use of diads, and though these may seem simple, they are actually the guide tones of chords, which are the 3rds and 7ths, which imply the tonal quality of the chord as major, minor, or dominant. Diads work great when played with a bass player who fills in the root of the chord
