Detent

When dealing with electronics, a detent is a “notch” placed in a variable resistor such as a pan potentiometer to indicate where the default setting is located. Detents may also be found on any pot that can be used to select presets to show where the different settings are located. When turning a detented pot, you will feel the pot click or catch as you pass the detent(s).
