Acronym for Digital Audio Reference Signal. DARS is essentially a clock reference in the digital domain similar to house sync in the analog world. It’s a complete digital audio signal, but without any actual audio data (known as digital black), just the all important clock data. DARS is sometimes used to synchronize digital audio equipment together under circumstances where separate word clock signals aren’t practical.
