San Francisco-based Cycling ’74 has announced UpMix, a surround processing and upmixing software package for both Mac and Windows platforms with support for VST and RTAS formats. The primary plug-in, also named UpMix, provides a number of algorithms and advanced positioning controls that can move stereo files into an immersive surround environment that’s suitable for film, broadcast, and music surround applications. Five additional plug-ins handle all the most common surround mixing tasks. Cycling ’74 stresses that none of these tools is intended as a replacement for an engineer skilled in surround processing. UpMix will be available in the first quarter of 2006.
