Cantilever

On a turntable, a cantilever is the light, balanced arm that extends over the record during playback. At the end of this arm is the stylus, which fits into the groove of the record. Also know as a tonearm, cantilevers typically come in two different styles – straight or “S”-shaped with the straight arms being preferred by many turntablists.
