First introduced in 1950, the Broadcaster was the first two-pickup “Telecaster” to market. In 1951, Gretsch sued over the name, since they had already registered the “Broadkaster” name for a line of drums. So in 1951 Fender changed the name to Telecaster, as it has been known ever since.
