Auranomic is a word coined by the Sony Corporation and applied to their headphone design. It derives from the words aural meaning received or perceived by ear (from the Latin Auris), and Nomos, the Greek word for law. Nomic is used as a suffix means law pertaining to, which in this case would be the natural shape of the human ear. According to Sony, an auranomic design is such that the driver unit of a set of headphones is positioned in relation to the angle of the ear in order to eliminate pressure. Sony claims that the result of auranomic design is a more natural reproduction of sound as well as enhanced wearing comfort.
