All the mixing in the world won’t help if the musical arrangement for a song or piece isn’t jibing properly. If you find that mixing is extremely difficult — particularly layering parts or making everything fit in the bass or midrange, step back and take a look at the musical arrangement. Perhaps there are some parts that can be tailored or reworked musically, or some combinations of parts can be brought in and out in a complementary fashion in order to allow everything enough musical room to fit without fighting.
