Anti-Imaging Filter

A common name for the filter that is part of reconstructing an analog waveform at a D/A converter. The output of a digital system is usually in the form of a stair-stepped waveform with a great deal of high frequency energy known as “images,” hence the name anti-imaging filter. It’s also commonly called a reconstruction filter (and is further defined under that name in the WFTD archives).
