A type of amplifier component design that depends on current in the feedback loop instead of the more common (for audio applications) voltage based feedback loop. While they can be harder to work with in terms of design they can offer several performance advantages (bandwidth limiting and fast correcting among others) over more common designs. These attributes help enable designers to build amps that exhibit a very high degree of linearity and precision, particularly in how they react to transients. Transimpedance amps are used in a number of audiophile products.
