Musette

A French bagpipe of the 17th and 18th centuries, now often referred to as a “musette du cour.” It was originally developed as an instrument for wealthy society, and surviving examples are quite often exquisitely made. This may also have been the first bagpipe to employ bellows. Both the chanter and drones are cylindrical, while both are sounded with double reeds. The chanter (on which the melody was played) had keys for semitones and were initially able to play a scale from F to the A a tenth above the lowest note.
