A RAID level that uses a combination of striping and parity to enhance the security of data storage. With RAID 3, data is striped across the multiple component disks in the RAID at the byte level. Parity information is stored on a dedicated disk. With a RAID 3 system, the data will be able to survive the loss of any disk in the RAID, including the disk that the parity information is stored on.
