A type of physical enclosure for hardware that supports bolting the item into a standard 19″ equipment rack. Bolts are passed through holes in rack “ears” on the front panel of the enclosure and screw into matching threaded holes or nuts on the rack’s rails. The height of such equipment is measured in “rack spaces,” where each rack space equals 1.75 inches. In some cases, heavy equipment may also be supported by rear rack rails and ears, which are on the back panel of the piece of equipment.
