If you’re using Native Instruments Komplete, keep in mind that Kontakt can open and play the instruments for any of the Komplete synths that utilize sample playback, including Akoustik Piano, Battery, Elektrik Piano, Intakt, and Kompakt.
Kontakt can also open and play instruments from virtual instruments such as East West Ra, Colossus, Symphonic Orchestra, and others such as Zero-G Sounds of Polynesia – any that are based on the NI Kontakt or Kompakt player.
It does this without need for importing the preset – it will open them directly.
In some cases, a special interface will even open up in Kontakt’s rack – such as when opening instruments from Elektrik Piano. An extended control panel will open with dedicated controls for Speed, Stereo, Rls Vol, and Reverb. And with Akoustik Piano instruments opened in Kontakt, an extended control panel opens that gives you dedicated controls for sustain, release, lid setting, ambience, and more.
This allows you to use Kontakt as your “central” instrument for loading and playing just about any sampled sound from Komplete or other NI-based virtual instruments. Very handy when sequencing in a DAW, where you need access to many sounds at once, but don’t want to load lots of instances of different synths. (Kontakt can load up to 64 instruments at once; in plug-in mode it can receive on up to 16 MIDI channels, 64 MIDI channels in stand-alone mode.)
Note that the instrument you’re opening may have to be installed and opened at least once in order to be able to access its content using Kontakt.
