Q: A stand-alone recorder I am using has 1/4-inch inputs that are labeled “Mic/Line.” Can I really plug a microphone into these? Do I need a preamp?
A: You’ll have to check the device’s specs to be sure, but if that is the way the input is labeled, we would assume it can accept mic-level signals. Try it, you won’t hurt anything.
There are adapters and cables available that will convert XLR to 1/4-inch.
