About RODE Shotgun Microphones

Shotgun microphones are a critical component to many film sets and content creators getting the cleanest audio possible. RODE knows this better than most, which is why they’ve made multiple lines of shotgun mics specifically suited for capturing video audio, including the VideoMic and NTG series. Whether you need a RODE shotgun mic with a rechargeable battery for on-the-go recording or an all-in-one solution that mounts to your camera, all options have incredible compatibility and high directionality — ensuring you’re able to get broadcast-grade audio.

Which RODE shotgun mics work with my DSLR camera?

RODE VideoMic series microphones such as the VideoMic Pro R are designed to be compatible with your camcorder or DSLR, making them a viable solution for your lightweight and portable recording setup.

Can I use RODE shotgun mics outdoors?

Yes. Shotgun microphones such as the RODE NTG5 have a moisture-resistant design for superior protection and use in unpredictable environments. Low self-noise, low handling-noise, and high directionality allow you to get an exceptionally isolated audio source while recording outdoors.

How do I power my RODE shotgun microphone?

Most shotgun condenser mics such as the NTG-3 require phantom power from an external source via XLR cable. However, microphones such as the RODE VideoMic Pro+ are AA battery powered and can be used without needing a portable recorder.
