Works well with my old synth keyboard and interface

First, these are well-made cables, no doubt, as are all Roland products (and I have literally 2 dozen). Sadly their design is poor. The barrel on the connector only has a short length before the molded portion takes over, and that molded portion is fairly thick. I have 28 pieces of gear that have MIDI 5-pin DINs, and on half of them the molded portion keeps the barrel from full insertion due to the instrument housing. It usually makes connection, but if it's a performance piece like a controller, physical playing will loosen and almost certainly disrupt connection. Yes, the workaround is shaving the molding down, but that shouldn't be the consumer's job, especially on a premium-priced cable.

Simply put, modern electronic music wouldn't exist without Roland.
