Summon Searing Sonics and Virtual Voltage You’ll Love to Hate
Get ready to imbue your sonic palette with major musical malice thanks to the Tracktion Hate plug-in — a powerhouse of virtual voltage that delivers a deluge of dynamic, dirty, and destructive distortions. Tracktion, alongside revered sound-design virtuoso Dawesome, developed this imaginative and innovative take on distortion that wields versatile virtual vitriol to transform your instruments with evolving, aggressive, and dynamic textures. Over 200 presets give you the ultimate sonic sandbox to elevate all manners of synths, drums, guitars, and anything else you could imagine, while Hate’s modular architecture, built-in effects, and virtual pedalboard pave the way to unrivaled flexibility and ferocious sonic contouring. For Sweetwater’s sound scholars, the most enamoring aspect of Hate’s power is the visionary approach that makes it all possible: a distortion based on wavetables. Add in the onboard Randomizer, per-module parameters, complex automation capabilities, and the option to drop in any waveform of your choosing, and Tracktion will take your sounds to daring echelons of dynamic distortions and searing saturation with Hate.

Evolved wavetable wizardry, tailored to suit
At the heart of each Hate distortion module is a galvanizing wavetable waiting to be warped, sliced, twisted, and traversed. Whether you’re after subtle sonic textures or total aural annihilation, Hate is primed to deliver. Numerous onboard wavetables lay the groundwork for your sound-crafting odyssey, but the constellation of surrounding Warp, Edge, Slice, Image, Punch, and Frequency Tilt parameters opens the door to unrivaled malleability and customization.

- Warp: A bimodal parameter that increasingly warps high- and low-amplitude portions of your sound when turned clockwise and counterclockwise, respectively.
- Edge: Attenuate the intensity of your distortion, closer or further from bypassing, independent of Hate’s master Dry/Wet control.
- Slice: Define the slice within the wavetable that’s currently activated, mapping to physical or virtual macros, as well as automating within your DAW, evoking dynamic, evolving textures.
- Image: This soundfield control allows you to send only mono or stereo portions of your sound through the distortion when turned left or right, respectively.
- Punch: Another bimodal parameter that distorts only transient content when turned counterclockwise or sustaining portions of a signal when turned clockwise.
- Frequency Tilt: This control allows you to distort your signal such that it prioritizes low- or high-frequency values — crunchy lows to the left and searing highs to the right.
Modular musical malice meets pedalboard pliability
With 29 modules — multimode processing, effects, utility, dynamics, and distortion styles — to select, Hate is an impressively pliable plug-in. While the sonic diversity that spans these modules offers ample potential tailoring, Tracktion and Dawesome built Hate with a singular axiom in mind: no worthwhile distortion is a 1-size-fits-all effect. The solution? Modularity, in two lanes. Presets were designed to maximize each module’s musicality, with multitudes of styles that include FM (frequency modulation), OTT compression, myriad filter types, EQ-focused sound shaping, spatialization effects, and beyond. From clean and coarse to chaotic and vicious, Hate’s gamut of familiar, ferocious, inventive, and awe-inducing sonic spaces gives its modules titanic range. Moreover, the capacity to generate wavetables from user-inserted waveform files and Hate’s myriad built-in wavetables expand the scope even further.

As expansive and exciting as this all is, Tracktion and Dawesome’s decision to build Hate with a fitting ode to the guitar-playing world adds a new, prismatic dimension of sound design with a virtual pedalboard. Across effects, distortions, dynamics, and utilities, Hate’s pedalboard accommodates up to six modules of your choosing. What’s more, all the signal-chain flexibility and exploratory sound-design opportunities you’d expect from a physical pedalboard are included. The options to craft and build explosive, evolving, and surreal sonics multiply exponentially, and Hate’s visual feedback makes refining, editing, saving, and recalling your carefully constructed sounds a breeze.
