Wonderful Concert Acoustic from Yamaha

Get incredible tone and playability at an amazing price point with the Yamaha FS830 concert acoustic guitar. Featuring a solid spruce top with laminated rosewood back and sides, this stellar instrument puts out incredible tone and impressive projection. The smaller concert size of the FS830 is ideal for beginning and emerging players and is also a popular choice for fingerpicking and recording. The nato neck with rosewood fingerboard is incredibly comfortable and playable — great for chording and lead playing. In addition, scalloped X-bracing provides further support and tonal enhancement, a feature we really appreciate here at Sweetwater.

Great feel and tone

The FS830 concert body shape is not only smaller than a traditional dreadnought but also thinner, making it ideal for young players. The crisp high end makes this stellar acoustic ideal for bluegrass, folk, country, or virtually any other style you want to explore. Over the years, fingerpickers have gravitated to the easy-on-the-fingers neck of the FS830. Recording artists also appreciate how well this acoustic translates through the mic with great midrange and high-end tone without the boomy lows that often lead to distortion.

Yamaha FS830 Concert Acoustic Guitar Features:

  • Wonderful concert acoustic with solid spruce top for superb high and midrange tone
  • Nato neck with rosewood fingerboard is instantly comfortable and playable
  • Scalloped X-bracing provides further support and tonal enhancement
  • Eye-catching cream binding and classic tortoiseshell pickguard

Amazing guitar
I played the GS Mini before but I didn't like how boxy it sounds. I sold that one and blind bought this guitar. I just want a smaller body size guitar to play at home. Out of the box, this guitar was already great - it has voice from the D'addario XT strings. From the very first strum, this guitar begs you to play it more. After 2 months playing, I brought this guitar to a luthier for a professional setup, change the strings to phosphor bronze, change nut and saddle to bone (total cost 200). And wow, it sounds soo good now, very crispy sound, low deep bass, high ends, a tad louder than it was before, and much more responsive. And not to mention, it's a pretty pretty guitar - very good built quality. With the upgrade, I highly doubt any 1000 or under guitar sounds better than this one!

Beautiful Guitar and Sound
I have a Yamaha FG830 which is a full sized dreadnought and the workmanship, sound and feel are all great for the price. Yamaha puts alot of love into even their cheaper guitars. My daughter has been learning to play on the FG830 but finally admitted to me that it is too large, so I got her the FS830. It has the exact same specs, wood etc as the FG830, except the fretboard is about half inch shorter. It has great sound and is very punchy. There isn't a single flaw anywhere on this guitar and even the action is pretty decent. Almost immediately with the smaller body her strumming with the flat pick greatly improved. She really likes the Tobacco Sunburst color of my FG830, so I special ordered this one from Yamaha in a color called Dusk Sun Red and it is gorgeous and she loves it so she practices more. The red is actually even more striking and brighter than in the photo I included. The back and sides are laminated Rosewood and usually Rosewood runs darker and sort of purplish sometimes but this particular guitar it is lighter and the wood grain is very striking. Can't believe this guitar is only $! it is just a beauty to behold and listen to. For a smaller sized orchestra sized guitar it has plenty of sound and resonates nicely. I had it shipped in a hard shell case, and when my daughter opened that thing and saw that pretty guitar she was overwhelmed and gasped and stared at it for at least a minute. Also there is a strap button on the neck-my FG830 didn't have that-which is a nice add-on so I didn't have to risk drilling a hole to install one. Chris Shura, my awesome rep, special ordered it for me since Sweetwater only carries the Natural color.

Superb Guitar

For the price this guitar is absolutely superb, as beautiful to look at as it sounds.I customized this guitar to bring it up to my standards.

First of all, the only real problem with this guitar were the machines, which you can expect with guitars below the $ price point.

I replaced the nut with one I made from 120 year old mahogany heartwood.

As I wrote in my previous post, I taped a 12 Bar Blues pick up to a Rubber sound suppressor, that I cut out half the bottom to keep as much of the acoustic sound as possible to keep the pick up as close to the 12th frets as possible for a warmer tone and the result is a guitar with warmth and clarity that is as good or better than a high end Taylor or Martin.

For recording, I taped a cable holder under the sound suppressor to hold a lavalier microphone and bought a volume control so I can record the natural guitar tone and miked amp sound simultaneously.
