Handcrafted in Europe, today’s Cirrus is elegantly graced with a highly figured maple or wenge top, while its sleekly sculpted body and fast maple/purpleheart neck provide off-the-charts comfort and playability. Reintroducing master luthier Mike Powers’ 1997 neck-through design, the 7-piece neck is graphite reinforced, with Gotoh tuners and a massive top-load bridge anchoring a 35-inch scale length. Longer scale length for enhanced low end
One feature bassists at Sweetwater love about Peavey Cirrus basses is their 35-inch scale length. A longer scale length holds the strings at a higher tension, giving your lowest notes more punch, impact, and note definition. While this benefit is immediately noticeable on 4-string models, it’s particularly pronounced on extended-range basses. If you’ve played many standard-scale (34-inch) 5-string bass guitars, you’ll undoubtedly have noted that the low B string can sound and feel quite “flubby,” our portmanteau of flaccid and tubby for basses that suffer from this problem. But with the Peavey Cirrus, your tone will remain tight, focused, and pronounced when you’re grooving down low in the meat and potatoes range.
Advanced active electronics onboard
A proprietary humbucking design developed by Peavey for deployment in its premium basses, the VFL pickup represents a radical departure from traditional pickups that focus magnetic flux across their coils horizontally. Instead, the magnets in VFL pickups are mounted vertically inside the housing, thus altering the alignment of the magnetic field to provide a broader sensing area across the strings’ vibrational arc. This results in more robust low frequencies as well as increased dynamic range and sensitivity to the nuances in your playing technique, whether you’re plucking, slapping, or picking. On Cirrus models, the VFL humbuckers feed Peavey’s high-headroom 18-volt PCB preamp with 3-band EQ that lets you sculpt your sound to perfection while driving long cable runs and complex processing chains without a hint of noise.
