A First-rate First Keyboard

Learning the keys is a solid musical foundation for any child, and Casio makes the process easy and accessible with the SA-81 portable arranger keyboard. Filled with fun sounds, learning opportunities, and delightful songs, children of any age will enjoy this keyboard. The SA-81 features 44 mini keys that are the perfect size for small hands. With 32-note polyphony, this keyboard will sound great even when playing many other notes in unison. Its small size and battery-powered capabilities make it very portable, so it’s easy for a child to play in the car or take to a friend’s house. Plus, its headphone output allows for silent practice anywhere. Other aspects like layer, transpose, metronome, reverb, and more make this arranger keyboard as entertaining as it is educational!

Endlessly enjoyable for new learners

The SA-81 portable arranger keyboard will keep children engaged in the music until they’re ready to graduate to their next instrument. It comes equipped with 100 built-in tones sampled from real acoustic instruments like pianos, winds, and percussion instruments. Next, there are 50 different rhythm patterns to play along with, ranging from pop to ballad to dance. Also, children will love the 10 built-in songs that include classics like “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” “Ode to Joy,” “Yankee Doodle,” and more. Young learners can also explore this keyboard’s functions, like layering two tones together, tempo adjustments of rhythms, or unique scale tunings like Pure Major and Pure Minor. These aspects also make the SA-81 an excellent tool for vocal lessons. Sweetwater highly recommends the Casio SA-81 for young learners — it’s a great introduction to playing the keys!

Casio 81
Enjoying playing this mini keyboard, just wanted something to play while I am sitting on my recliner instead of getting up and going to the piano. I would recommend this keyboard.
Music background: Played piano in church, now just play for enjoyment

Good for the price
I bought this to use at rehearsals and it serves the purpose at a very reasonable price. It's small enough to carry, completely independent of power and connections, you can transpose, use different tunings, select instruments, etc.
That said, I think Casio could have done a better job with the firmware and fixed some annoying limitations:
1) There is no memory of settings. If you turn it off, you have to set everything up again. A way to save settings would really improve the unit. Even if it just remembered the last setting before it turned off.
2) It shuts off after 4 minutes of no activity which of course loses all the settings.
3) The instructions aren't clear in some cases. And just wrong in others.
But overall it is very good for the price.

Many of the keyboardists here at Sweetwater have fond memories of Casio that go all the way back to when we first started playing, and that's often kept us coming back for decades. Today, we're happy to point players to Casio keyboards, no matter how long they've been playing - even if they've never played at all. In fact, we've set up many beginners with Casio LK series Lighted-key models, and they've regularly raved about how easy these keyboards make learning. Likewise, several of the solo performers at Sweetwater swear by their fully loaded Privia and other advanced lines, which provide top-notch accompaniment and more. And if you stop by the Sweetwater Piano Showroom, we'll be happy to show you the latest Casio home piano - all providing amazing value and style.
