Gotoh: Japan’s leading hardware purveyor since 1960
Founded in 1960, Gotoh reigns as Japan’s perpetual champion of machine head manufacturing. The company’s seeds were planted in 1950 when Masao Gotoh’s research lab began producing strings for violins. Mid-century disruptions in music technology prompted a pivot to hardware, and by 1960, Gotoh was ascendant in the market. Today, dozens of worldwide brands finalize instruments using Gotoh tuners, tailpieces, and beyond, arming players with reliable string performance and impeccable tuning stability. While Gotoh aftermarket parts can be difficult to procure in the United States, Sweetwater’s direct relationship offers an attractively wide range of Gotoh parts.
