Yamaha Revstar
Rev Up Your Riffs with Yamaha Revstar Guitars
Inspired by café racers of the 1960s, Yamaha Revstar guitars are crafted with style and sophistication in mind. These finely tuned tone machines are tooled up for sporty elegance and sleek performance — all at a price that won’t break the bank.
Thanks to their innovative design and inspired electronics, Revstar guitars empower guitarists of all skill levels to show off their true identities onstage. And, as owners at Sweetwater will tell you, they look mighty fine hanging up in your guitar room. Wondering if a Yamaha Revstar series guitar is right for you? Here are some highlights of the series.
Style and Comfort at Every Turn
Style and comfort pull equal rank in every great guitar ever made. Builders at Yamaha took this into consideration when designing the Revstar series. Trendsetters will be immediately drawn to the double-cut designs with brilliant fades and retro racing stripes. Fans of comfort will appreciate each Revstar’s lightweight chambered body, deep belly cut, beveled forearm contour, and high-access neck joint. If you’re after a stylish guitar that doesn’t sacrifice ergonomics (or vice versa), you’ll want to test-drive a Yamaha Revstar today.
Geared Up for Sonic Versatility
The Yamaha Revstar series offers guitarists of every genre an impressive range of alnico pickup options, each with its own unique switching and enhancements. Here’s how they stack up.
Alnico humbucker models with passive Dry circuit
Revstar’s Alnico V humbucker models are dead quiet, with classic grit and a speedy 3-way switch that will speak to humbucker lovers across genres. But there’s a secret hiding behind those straightforward controls: activate the push-pull Dry circuit, and you’ve got a powerful highpass filter that instantly zaps mud and focuses attack without affecting gain or output levels. Sweetwater guitarists have found the Revstar’s Dry switch to be an essential ingredient in chasing our favorite sounds, whether we’re tightening up metal chugs or de-booming chord strums.
Alnico P-90 models with passive Focus circuit
Revstar models loaded with Alnico V soapbars serve up spangly cleans and rip-roaring rock tones. A 5-way switch uses timing and phasing magic to simulate the quacky, in-between P2/P4 tones of your favorite surf guitars. But engage the push-pull passive Focus circuit in any position, and you’ll notice a sizable low-mid resonance boost. This can be useful for “trebleshooting” excess bite in jazz tones or adding Clapton-y squawk to lead lines.
Breaking Down the Yamaha Revstar Series by Tiers
Yamaha Revstar guitars are divided into three tiers to give players of all needs and budgets a stylish axe with success-driven features. Here’s a look at how the different tiers compare.
Tier 1: Yamaha Revstar Element
These guitars feature mahogany bodies and necks with rosewood fingerboards. Each comes with two humbuckers, a 3-way selector switch, and a Dry circuit for instant tone enhancement.
Tier 2: Yamaha Revstar Standard
Building on the Element tier, these models add maple caps to the mahogany bodies and have carbon-reinforced necks for stability. Available with P-90s or humbuckers, each also includes a gig bag.
Tier 3: Yamaha Revstar Professional
Revstar's top tier is crafted by Yamaha’s master luthiers in Hamamatsu, Japan. Each guitar features carbon reinforcement in the body for enhanced tone. Available with P-90s or humbuckers, every Revstar Professional guitar includes a hardshell case.
