How do I update the firmware of my Mackie Control?
Here is the firmware file and the instructions.
1. To update the Mackie Control firmware the unit should be patched to a computer via the normal MIDI cabling setup.
2. To launch Mackie Control into its firmware update (“bootloader”) mode, hold down these three buttons on the Mackie Control while powering up the unit:
3. Play the MIDI update file (attached) using a MIDI player that fully supports MIDI sysex messaging. Windows Media Player, and most DAWs fit the bill. Some players, such as WinAmp, will not work. It may be necessary to fully start the computer program and open the MIDI file in it before launching Mackie Control into bootloader mode.
4. A series of dots will roll by on the LCD as the file plays, indicating Mackie Control is receiving and loading the update. Stopping the file part-way, turning off power in the middle of loading, pulling out the cable etc. definitely won’t get the job done, but should not render the unit lifeless. Just try again. There are 4 error codes you may see if the unit cannot complete the update. <
Error Code 1 -> “General fail.” Mackie Control received a sysex message but couldn’t understand it. Triggered by a wrong or misread MIDI device ID. Wrong update for this product, or other bad message format.
Error Code 2 -> “Erase fail.” Update started, message received, but processor failed to erase current program.
Error Code 3 -> “Write fail.” Update started, message received, but processor failed to write new program.
Error Code 4 -> “Run fail.” Mackie Control received update but checksum is wrong. Data lost in transfer.
5. After Mackie Control successfully loads the update, it will boot up as if you normally cycled power.
