This guide will show you the firmware update procedure on a TASCAM Digital Portastudio. Follow the steps below to get started.
Check the firmware version
TASCAM Digital Portastudio firmware updates typically add new features and bug fixes to the internal software. If you’re experiencing issues that aren’t SD card related, a firmware update may be required. However, before performing an update, check which firmware version you’re currently on and compare it to the latest version listed on the product download website.
- Press the MENU button, then use the jog wheel or cursor buttons to highlight Information
- Press the F4 button to open the information display. The firmware will be listed as the System Version.
- Go to the Digital Portastudio page and compare that version to the one that’s currently installed.
Perform the firmware update
Performing TASCAM Digital Portastudio firmware updates requires you to download a firmware file and then transfer it to your computer via USB. It’s a straightforward process, so follow these steps to complete the update.

- Once your Portastudio shows up as an external device, open it, copy, and paste the extracted firmware to the Utility folder. After it has been copied, press the F2 (Yes) button to disconnect.
- Turn the unit off, then while holding the UNDO/REDO and MUTE buttons, turn the unit back on.
