How much of each sample does Tascam GigaStudio 3 load into RAM? Does it stream entirely from the hard drive or does it use up my system memory?

GigaStudio 3, as previous versions of GigaStudio, loads the first 64 kilobytes (64kb) of each sample (including layered sounds and everything) into RAM. This is more than enough to allow the sample to start playing from RAM almost immediately while the hard drive prepares to stream the rest of the sample; basically it covers the time needed for the hard drive to find the file on the actual disk.

And since most systems have 512 megabytes or more, 64 kilobytes (remember, kilo is approximately 1/1000 of mega), you can see this is a mere fraction of the amount of RAM you have on your computer.

This is how GigaStudio is able to work with many thousands of samples at a time while still being able to retrieve any sample you wish almost instantaneously.
