Korg N1 / N5 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. If the LED is not already lit on the PERFORM button then push it.
2. Press the BANK button (the LED will light).
3. Press PROG bank A, B, C, USER, GM, SFX, or DRUM on the Keypad to select a bank.
4. Use the INC+, DEC-, Keypad, or the VALUE slider to select a Program you would like to play.

2. Use the cursor to highlight the PERFORM number.
3. Use the INC+, DEC-, or the VALUE slider to select a Performance you would like use.

1. Press the GLOBAL button.
2. Press the PAGE/PART UPPER button until you see in the upper left of the display.
3. Use the CURSOR buttons to highlight Prg, Cmb, Drm, or Eff.
4. Press the INC+ button to select on or DEC- to select off.

1. First make sure Write Protect is Off for what you would like to save. Follow the steps above to do this. If you would like to name your Combination, Program, Drum Kit or Effect press the PAGE/PART UPPER button until you see in the upper left of the display. Use the CURSOR buttons to highlight the characters you wish to change and use the INC+, DEC-, or the VALUE slider to select the new characters.
2. Press the WRITE button.
3. Use the INC+, DEC-, or the VALUE slider to enter the destination number where you would like to save.
4. Press the ENTER button.

3. Use the CURSOR buttons to highlight the CLKSRC.
4. Press the INC+ button to select either MIDI or PCIF.
5. Press the EXIT button.

You can have up to 8 Programs in a Combination. The N1/N5 allows you to set independent volume, pan, effect send level, pitch, keyboard range, velocity range, and how the timbre will be controlled by MIDI messages for each Program.

Performances are used to quickly select Programs or Combinations and to play them on the keyboard. They also allow you to play back up to 16 different parts from a computer. Also a Performance includes Part Common data which contains settings for the four real-time controller knobs, split, layer and arpeggiator settings. The N1/N5 has 32 Performances.

Multi Mode is used when you have your N1/N5 hooked up to a external sequencer or a computer. It allows your N1/N5 to function as a 32 part multi-timbral MIDI tone generator.

1. Find the Program you would like to use first, this will be your upper layer.
2. Press the SPLIT button. You will now have a split layer with C4 as the split point.
3. Press the LOWER PAGE/PART button.
4. Use the INC+, DEC-, BANK select button or VALUE slider to select a Program for the lower layer of the split. To save your split or to edit parameters see Performance Edit Mode page 25 in the N1/N5 Owner’s manual.

1. Press the EFFECT button.
2. Press the BANK button and use the numeric keys to select an Effect bank.
3. Use the numeric keys 0-9 to select a effect. Effect numbers range from 0 to 99.
4. To save the Program or Combination you changed the Effect on follow the save procedure above.

1. Make sure Write Protect is Off.
2. Press the UTILITY button.
3. Press the INC+ until you see Init: Factory Preset.
4. Press the ENTER button.
   • It will ask you if you are sure. Make sure you have saved any changes you made and want to keep because this will erase it.
