How do I perform a firmware update on my Yamaha Tyros 5?

Before performing the firmware update, you’ll need to download the new firmware. To do that, click here, then under “Find Your Model,” select Pianos & Keyboards > Arranger Workstations > Tyros 5 (61 or 76), then click Select. On the next page, the latest firmware will be at the top. Click on it, then scroll down to the bottom of the page, check the box that says “Yes, I agree,” and download the firmware zip file.

To perform the update:

  1. Extract the zip file that you downloaded. On Windows, you can do this by right-clicking and choosing Extract All. On Mac, you can do this by simply double-clicking the file.
  2. Insert a USB flash drive formatted by your Tyros 5 into your computer.
  3. Copy the contents of the extracted zip file to the root directory of your USB flash drive (do not place the files in any folder).
  4. Eject the flash drive from your computer and insert it into the USB TO DEVICE port on the Tyros 5.
  5. While holding down the STYLE [PLAY/STOP] button, turn on the Tyros 5. Continue holding down the STYLE button until you see the following message displayed on the screen:
    • System Booter ver.1.xx / Now loading. Please Wait a moment…
  6. After a few moments, you will see instructions on the screen to start the installation. Press the [START/STOP] button to begin the update.
  7. A progress bar will appear. Once the installation is complete, you can turn off the Tyros 5.
