I can’t get the firmware to load into my new Mackie Spike. I keep getting a failure to load notice right before it seems to finish.

According to Mackie, this is normal behavior for all Spikes. This is due to the install CD having a default program to load a firmware updater on it when installed. However, all spikes have shipped with the current firmware so there is no need to update it. The update fails because the unit is already current. As of 10/10/06, Mackie has not reprinted their install CD’s without the automatic firmware loader on them. Using the Spike driver from Mackie’s website will allow the spike to install without trying to update the firmware.

–WARNING– Repeated attempts to load the firmware can cause damage to the Spike by overloading the EPROM chip in it. If you are still having problems after correctly loading the driver call Sweetwater tech support or Mackie support.
