Allen & Heath GLD Chrome edition FAQ
Q. What is GLD Reloaded?
A. GLD Reloaded is our title for the exciting package of new features and options for the GLD series. It encompasses the release of the stunning new Chrome Edition GLD console options, the new black AudioRack options and the release of V1.5 Chrome firmware, which adds new delay FX, superb compressor emulations and Automatic Mic Mixing.
Q. Is the original GLD obsolete?
A. No. Customers can now choose between the original styling and the new Chrome Edition consoles. Similarly, the AR84 and AR2412 AudioRacks can be ordered in either the original purple or the new black finish.
Q. What are the differences between GLD Chrome Edition consoles and the original GLD mixers?
A. GLD Chrome Edition consoles boast a new style which speaks of quality and tourability, from the silver overlays and new anodized aluminium armrest, to the in-house designed fader and rotary knobs.
Q. Do Chrome Edition GLD consoles have more channels or mixes?
A. No, the system capability and functionality remains the same.
Q. Are the AR2412 and AR84 staying the same?
A. Both the AR2412 and AR84 are now available in a choice of original purple or the new black paintwork. The black versions are designed to fit with the new Chrome Edition consoles and with the Qu series, however users are free to mix and match the different versions – these changes have no effect on compatibility. There is no change to the AB168, which is available in black only.
Q. What’s new in V1.5 Chrome firmware?
A. V1.5 offers the latest in processing tools including advanced Automatic Mic Mixing, a suite of new delay effects, and new quality compressor models built into the channel strip. Please refer to the V1.5 New Features Document at release for details.
Q. Will the new V1.5 features be available to existing GLD users?
A. Yes, V1.5 will be made available to all GLD users and is compatible with all GLD hardware.
Q. What is an Automatic Mic Mixer?
A. An Automatic Microphone Mixer (AMM) or Automixer automatically controls the levels of multiple channels of audio based on user settings, saving repetitive manual fader adjustments. It is used in applications such as conferences, meeting rooms, panel talks and TV shows where a number of microphones are open at the same time. In these situations the AMM reduces background noise such as hiss and rumble and minimizes the risk of feedback.
Q. Are Show files and Libraries compatible between GLD Chrome Edition and original GLD consoles?
A. Yes, Shows and Libraries created with existing GLD systems can be loaded on a GLD Chrome console. Shows and Libraries created with GLD Chrome consoles can be loaded into existing GLD systems once updated to V1.5.
Q. Will GLD Editor, GLD Remote and GLD OneMix get an update?
A. Yes. V1.5 Chrome updates of Editor and apps will be compatible with all GLD mixers running V1.5 firmware.
Q. Can I connect a Chrome Edition GLD console and an existing GLD mixer together for FOH/Monitors?
A. Yes, simply fit an ACE, Dante, MADI, EtherSound, or Waves SG V2 card to the option port on each. One system will be the master and the other the slave. I/O racks on the master are shared over the digital link.
Q. Can I use a Chrome Edition GLD console as a FoH/Monitor system with an iLive?
A. Yes, connect the two using the same type of option card. Either can be master or slave, FOH or Monitors.
Q. Can I use a Chrome Edition GLD console as a FoH/Monitor system with a Qu mixer?
A. Only via an analogue splitter, as Qu mixers cannot sync from dSNAKE or other digital links.
