Old-school filtering meets moder architecture

Without a doubt, Moog is one of the most inspiring names in synthesizer history, and it's all because of Moog's superior circuit designs. One of the keys to the Moog sound was Bob Moog's original ladder filter, and standalone ladder filters have been a favorite for studios for decades. The Ladder makes this signature sound more accessible than ever before, allowing you to inject it straight into your 500 Series rack. Experience the sound-shaping creativity for yourself, order The Ladder from Sweetwater today!

Ultra-smooth classic Moog sound

In The Ladder, four decades of filter development come together, offering you the smoothest filtering to date. A classic Moog all-analog filter lets you select between highpass and lowpass configurations. What's more, you can select from 2Pole and 4Pole modes (12dB or 24dB respectively), allowing you to set exactly how aggressive you want The Ladder's filtering to be.

Freakishly flexible filtering

Beyond conventional 2Pole/4Pole settings and cutoff controls, The Ladder lets you deeply define its character. First, The Ladder lets you perfectly define its attack and release. Pull back the attack and let The Ladder reshape your bass, or crank both settings to add bite to guitars, synths, or even drums. You also get positive and negative filtering modes, which lets you dial in anything from mild excitement to crazy reverse filtering. And to top it off, you can even push The Ladders resonance into self-oscillation for out-of-this-world Moog tone.

Moog The Ladder 500 Series Dynamic Filter Module Features:
  • A powerful 500 Series analog filter module that delivers classic Moog sound
  • Ultra-smooth lowpass and highpass analog filtering
  • Select from 12dB/octave 2Pole mode or classic 24dB/octave 4Pole mode
  • Flexible cutoff, attack, and release controls
  • Positive and negative amount controls let you dial in a huge range of filter effects
  • Resonance control you can push into self-oscillation
  • Absolutely transparent bypass relay for A/B comparison

Incredible Filter

I was definitely blown away. Everything I run through the Ladder comes to life. I can't believe how dull my MachineDrum or Tempest sound now with these little filters turned off. I bought a pair and threw them in my 500 series box next to a pair of Moog Analog Delays. The two device compliment each other brilliantly. Although not mentioned anywhere online, the Ladder is stereo linkable, and includes everything in the box to get you linked up if you buy a pair. By default they link as the average between the two unit's settings, so it actually gives you a lot more flexibility over your filter as you can either move the filters settings together or play with sweeps in between. This works incredibly well, and my drums and synths sound incredible running through the two Ladders. I'm actually kind of speechless. I don't know how these little guys make anything I feed them sound so good, but I waited way too long to add these to my setup and now I can't even dream of not having them.

Just great

Honestly this thing rules. I use it on my Elektron dark trinity outboard gear and ITB synths like Serum. This thing coupled with the Kemper Profiler and a Chandler Little devil is magic. Come to think about it, just about everything sounds awesome through it.

Amazing Tool!

This thing is great on just about anything. Especially if you work ITB with a lot of soft synths. When you send them through the ladder it makes them sound like they came out of an expensive outboard synth! Cool on vocals and many other sources as well. Thanks to Karl Long for reccomending it to me!

Ladder rocks!

This unit is absolutely killer on kick drum and electric guitars. It's absolutely amazing how powerful it really is. It's somewhere between EQ, compression, and harmonic expansion! Great unit and my go to on rock guitars and kick.

Sweetwater Advice

WOW!!!! I am absolutley blown away. The Ladder filter can be used on much more than synths, I have used it on nearly every source I can think of while mixing and the results are dramatic and instant. On guitar tracks, it makes a weak dynamic mic come alive like it was tracked with a high end ribbon; it gives punch and clarity to a flabby kick drum (you can also get a "subkick" sound if needed); on bass guitars, it can give a growl and edge or take out the high end "slap"; a pair of them on the mix buss makes it sound like it was tracked on a high end analog console! I can't say enough good things about The Ladder and how necessary it is as a mixing tool. The Ladder makes EVERYTHING sit where it needs to in the mix with NO effort!!!

Every synth in your studio needs to run though this. In fact, This is a great tool for other more tradional instruments as well. I own 2 of them and will never get rid of them.

Aaron Cieslikowski

If you take a hands-on approach to sound manipulation, you HAVE to have The Ladder in your rack. When I got a couple into my studio I was able to channel Bob Moog's energy as I mashed my drum buss into oblivion. Next I moved over to the bass and added some sweetening with a deft touch. I think I tried it on every instrument on the record I'm currently working on and some of the sounds just defy description!

If you are new 500 Series, Moog's The Ladder should hands-down be your first module! This filter will work miracles on nearly every instrument in your mix - it's practically a ribbon microphone in a box. In my studio, it adds grit to my flat drum track, tone to my muddy guitar, and body to nearly any vocal I use it on. The Ladder is an absolute must for anyone who's interested in the 500 Series format.
