A Loud, Transparent Mastering Limiter

If you're tired of compromising quality to make competitively loud masters, listen up! The IK Multimedia T-RackS Stealth Limiter delivers ultra-transparent peak limiting, so you can crank up the loudness while maintaining a clean, dynamic sound. You won't find any nasty compression artifacts here. Thanks to its impressive intersample peak-limiting algorithm, the Stealth Limiter eats the peaks but leaves your music's magic and emotion intact. The Stealth Limiter is easy to use, too. Just set the digital ceiling, then turn the input knob. That being said, there are plenty of opportunities for fine-tuning, if that's your thing. The IK Multimedia T-RackS Stealth Limiter is a must-have for in-the-box mastering.

IK Multimedia T-RackS Stealth Limiter Plug-in at a Glance:
  • Intersample peak-limiting algorithm avoids compression artifacts
  • Four stealth modes provide ample tweakability
  • Advanced features offer phenomenal mastering quality
Intersample peak-limiting algorithm avoids compression artifacts

If you're like most of the engineers here at Sweetwater, you're tired of squashed masters. They sound lifeless and rob your music of magic and emotion. The IK Multimedia T-RackS Stealth Limiter's great-sounding intersample peak-limiting algorithm predicts the converted analog waveform of your digital source, ensuring that your audio stays clear of the digital ceiling. This algorithm tracks your level and keeps it under control, but it's not a compressor, so you avoid the unpleasant artifacts that hyper-compression can create. Instead, you're left with clean-sounding audio that's loud, yet full of dynamic range. Avoiding intersample peaks is especially important if you distribute your music in MP3, AAC, or similar formats.

Four stealth modes provide ample tweakability

Although the IK Multimedia T-RackS Stealth Limiter is incredibly easy to use, its four modes offer plenty of opportunities for tweaking. Tight mode yields neutral-sounding peak limiting that avoids compression artifacts, even at maximum settings. Balanced mode delivers limiting with just a hint of dynamic compression that can only be heard at extreme settings and high loudness levels. Harmonics 1 mode is ultra transparent, but with a dash of harmonic coloration to add a sense of dimension to your master. Harmonics 2 mode adds grit and punch to your audio, injecting a weak mix with a thorough boost of analog character.

Advanced features offer phenomenal mastering quality

Remember Fletcher-Munson curves? They fool our ears into thinking that louder is better. The IK Multimedia T-RackS Stealth Limiter takes this into account, providing you with a unity gain monitoring function that lets you compare your mix's processed and unprocessed audio at the same volume. You also get an infrasonic filter (a 22Hz, 4th-order highpass filter) that cuts out unwanted sub-bass frequencies, taking stress off of your limiter.

IK Multimedia T-RackS Stealth Limiter Plug-in Features:
  • Ultra-transparent mastering intersample peak limiter
  • Advanced intersample peak-limiting algorithm avoids compression artifacts
  • 4 operating modes vary from completely natural to harmonic analog character
  • Unity gain monitoring function for comparing processed and unprocessed audio
  • Infrasonic filter takes stress off of your limiter
If you want ultra-transparent peak limiting, the IK Multimedia T-RackS Stealth Limiter does the job!

Reviews

Favorite plugin mastering limiter
I've got a bunch of mastering limiters, and demo'd or sold a bunch more. Stealth Limiter by far is the one I go to most often. It allows me to get to zero, retains dynamics, and doesn't crush or kill the space within the mix. Also not hard to dial in at all. Very nice oversampling and coloring options. Dithering options right on the main interface. Also has level matching so you can listen for sonic degradation without being fooled into louder being better. If you're looking at some of the other highly regarded mastering limiters and deciding which is for you, make sure you demo this.

Best Plugin Mastering Limiter Ever
Is is hands down the best plugin Mastering Limter available today. It lets you push tracks hard without distortion. Very, very good for hip/hop/trap (or anything for that matter). It lets you make bass heavy track super loud, much louder then other plugins. I have Slate Digital's FG-X, iZotope's Final Mix, and Massey's 2007 Limiter and this plugin blows them all out of the water.

Excellent Transparent Limiter
Stealth Limiter is an extremely good transparent mastering limiter. It builds upon and surpasses the standard set by the ol' faithful Waves L2. I personally don't like going crazy with extreme loudness, but it is possible if that's what you're wanting. I'm able to get material set to a good "commercial" level without any artifacts, though I will say that you are best served if you know what you're doing with your signal levels going into it and not just smashing everything up. I generally keep it set to "Balanced" mode and that seems to work best with the majority of program material I work with. People tend to use these kind of extreme limiters on Pop/Rock/HipHop music, but I can say that it works excellently with Classical and Jazz as well, and its transparency really shines there. I don't use the in-built dithering, so I can't comment on how well that works, though I expect it is very good - I use the Pow-R dithering that is built into Samplitude on my masters, because I know what to expect with it and the quality is hard to beat. The Infrasonic Filter can be helpful, I have it switched on sometimes, though usually I have any infrasonic stuff taken care of before the signal hits the limiter.

I take a half star off only because it seems to be unnecessarily processor intensive, especially on material with high sample rates. But I assume the transparency and inter-sample accuracy comes at a price of increased processing, still, most other similar transparent limiters don't eat up nearly as much power. I don't typically use any bus limiting on my mixes, but the heavy processor load of the Stealth Limiter would make me shy away from ever choosing this one for that purpose.

Overall, I highly recommend this limiter for all mastering duties, no matter what kind of material you're working with.
Sounds good but it has a Latency issue
I tried this plug in. I thought it had a nice clear voicing and kept the level from clipping. But the latency from this plug in made it unusable for me. A little disappointed.
