Ready, Player II — Enhanced Modern Performance

Blending historic Fender panache with the necessary tools for modern performance, the Fender Player II Stratocaster delivers a suite of versatile tone-crafting capabilities. A trio of premium tonewoods comprises alder, maple, and rosewood, while Player series single-coil pickups span a spectrum of shimmering highs, tight lows, and sonorous midrange. Guitarists at Sweetwater are thrilled with Fender’s decision to introduce rolled edges to each axe’s fingerboards, augmenting both comfort and accessibility. What’s more, Fender dove deep into the archives to resurrect iconic finishes — some of which have never been seen in the series! Between eye-catching aesthetics and a 2-point synchronized tremolo, the Fender Player II Stratocaster is your key to unparalleled expression and next-level playability.

Time-tested foundations

Fender’s origins are synonymous with the electric guitar revolution, and the Player II Stratocaster is imbued with the same foundational DNA. Its time-tested alder body anchors your tone in a sonorous, balanced cornerstone, blending resounding sustain with full-spectrum heft that doesn’t sacrifice articulation for presence. Maple adorns the neck, adding warmth and brightness in every register, with excellent voicing that ensures everything is crisp, powerful, and never harsh, from complex chords to roaring leads. Capping the tonal triumvirate is a rosewood fingerboard, supplementing your sound with a crystalline, glass-like veneer.

Contemporary tone-sculpting tools

To bring these sonic foundations to life, Fender meticulously crafted the Player series pickups to marry classic Fender style with contemporary tone-building necessities. This Player II Stratocaster deploys an SSS configuration. Player series Strat single-coil pickups utilize Alnico V magnets, expanding this guitar’s robust aural profile with glass-like transparency, percussive chime, and powerful voicing throughout the spectrum. With the aid of a 5-way blade switch, dual tone controls, and a master volume knob, untold worlds of latent sonic potential are waiting to be unearthed.

Maximum expressive possibilities

Aptly enough, it’s the playability of the Player II Stratocaster that elevates it to the echelon of modern, dynamic performance. The maple neck features a Modern “C” profile and satin finish, optimized for speed and comfort. It’s complemented by a 9.5-inch fingerboard radius, blending versatile accessibility and robust in-hand feel to extract every ounce of sonic possibility from its 22-fret array. Adding to the comfort of the fingerboard’s rolled edge, Fender’s bookended the Player II Stratocaster’s 25.5-inch scale with ClassicGear tuning machines and a 2-point synchronized tremolo with bent steel saddles. With rock-solid tuning and reliable buzz-free sound, the Player II Stratocaster expands your sonic palette for maximum expressivity, from subtle vibrato to roaring, evocative dives.

Reviews

Fender Stratocaster
Did research on Fender Strats for my 13yo grandson. Sweetwater had the best price and, having bought numerous merchandise from them in the past, knew that their service was top notch. Totally satisfied, as always!…………….steve stizzo

Great Guitar
This guitar is a very good deal. Don't be fooled that MIM means lower quality. There are no defects that I could find. The action is great, the neck is so smooth and the pickups sound great. Rosewood fingerboard, alder body, classicgear tuners, alnico V pickups. Exactly what I was looking for. Very happy I got this instead of the PRS Silver Sky SE.
Surprised
I've been playing for over 50 years and have owned at least 10 Strats. I currently have the Stratocaster Player Plus, among other guitars, which I love but I wanted to have one with a rosewood neck to accompany it. Not being able to find another Player Plus model I thought I'd try the Player 2. I found it a solid winner. Set up was very good out of the box. As others have noted the tremolo has some tuning issues. I added another spring and set it up again and it's perfect. What I was surprised about were the pickups. I usually accept that the pickups will need changing to something like Texas Specials, Tex Mex or 57/62's. Not so with this. I really like the way they sound. If there is a downside it has to do with the maker Fender. I feel they have become sloppy especially concerning the nut on their guitars. In this case it was cut right. I have in the past sent guitars back because of this issue. If this happens to you talk to your dealer and maybe if enough complaints are registered Fender will tighten up there QC on this matter. Play on.

Amazing
I just recently got one and man it is amazing the fee is great, the neck feels amazing and it's just overall perfect in my opinion
Great guitar, fretboard isn't pretty
Just bought a brand new Player II in 3-tone sunburst with the rosewood fretboard.

I'll start with the neck because the fretboard is pretty much my only issue with the guitar. Mine is near-black and has no light/dark streaks you usually see in rosewood; you'd think it was ebony except for the grain looks right for rosewood. It's kinda dull and shiny in different spots and it is not a looker, and almost looks like it was dyed with a dark brown or black stain. Other than that it feels great, the rolled edges are very nice, and the frets are decently dressed. The back of the neck is very slightly sticky (not like a painted neck though), but I'm told it will smooth out with playing. If not at some point I'll probably take a Scotchguard pad to it.

This was my first guitar with the vintage-style slotted tuners and it was interesting figuring out how to string it. I watched an online video on how to do it. It does hold tune well and the tuners make fine tuning your guitar easy. The gearing is so high you may need a string winder though.

Body is flawless with a gorgeous sunburst. I replaced the stock parchment pickguard (which was nice) with a Fender tortoise pickguard and it's really a fantastic color combination, especially with the cream knobs and pickup covers. Mine weighs 7 lbs, 9 oz., which feels just about perfect for a Strat to me.

The pickups are Alnico Vs, which are a bit more punch than the vintage pickups in my other Strat. Not quite as much quack but it is still there. I didn't hear any 60 cycle hum when I played it yesterday. With distortion this guitar makes a good rock and roll Strat, but still has nice cleans.

Overall it's a keeper. Very happy. Attached a pic with the new tortoise pickguard.
