Easily route the output of your favorite hardware synths and beat machines into your Reason rack. In Reason 7, MIDI is handled by the new External MIDI Instrument Device, which is fully integrated into the familiar Reason environment. Automating your MIDI gear from Reason's sequencer (or even from control voltages in the Reason rack) is a cinch to set up. Realizing the full implications of this causes us to stop, take a deep breath, and consider that the divide between software and hardware has been obliterated. And it took a software company to do it.

In Reason 7, you can record your instruments and let Reason automatically slice your recording into single notes or hits. Quantize an audio take to tweak your timing to perfection or to dramatically change up the recording by going creative with Reason's cool time stretch feature. The sliced audio can even be converted to REX files for playback and further treatment in the Dr. Octo Rex loop player, Reason's samplers, or Kong Drum Designer.

If you're anything like us Reason loyalists here at Sweetwater, you spend a lot of time exploring and tweaking sounds in the Reason rack. So Propellerhead (exceptionally considerate people, always thinking about our convenience) has made the most important mixing controls, such as level and pan, available in the rack as well. Reason 7's new bus channels make a simple, intuitive matter of grouping your tracks. You can even group your mixer groups for batch processing. You can also create parallel channels for separate processing with a single click, letting you easily execute New-York-style parallel compression and other smokin' hot mix techniques.

Reason now gives you a built-in spectrum analyzer window for instant visual feedback on your selected channel or bus. There's also a new Spectrum EQ window that combines a powerful spectrum analyzer with a graphic EQ overlay for controlling the mixer's awesome EQ. This makes it effortless to adjust the track EQ from anywhere within Reason.

Reason 7's Audiomatic Retro Transformer is a retro-futuristic effect device with gobs of personality. Immediately change the sound of your track by adding Audiomatic to any channel or group and selecting a snapshot. Take it from us: Audiomatic Retro Transformer is seriously cool (great name too).

Reason 7 also gives you an expanded sound bank with a new section of hard-hitting drum loops: from big room house to dubstep and even metal. It's all there, ready to juice your tracks. Reason 7 also supports more audio-import formats (such as MP3, WMA, and AAC), making importing your own sound files and grabbing loops from your music library or the web easier than ever.
