Workhorse Large-diaphragm Condenser

The Aston Microphones Origin is a unique-looking, high-performance large-diaphragm condenser mic with a 1" gold-evaporated capsule. The Origin's cardioid polar pattern, 10dB pad, and 80Hz highpass filter make this mic an all-around studio and stage workhorse. The Origin delivers a lovely, open sound with shimmering harmonics. Sweetwater engineers have found the Origin to be accurate and versatile, excelling in most applications, especially on vocals and acoustic guitars. The build quality is outstanding: Aston has hand-selected the capsule and paired it with high-end transformerless, balanced circuitry employing top-drawer components. The Origin delivers a true and transparent-sounding rendition of the source, capturing treble detail without a trace of harshness. If you're after quality on a budget, Aston Microphones' Origin is highly recommended.

Aston Microphones Origin at a Glance:
  • Wave-form mesh head with built-in pop filter
  • Unique chassis and end cap design
Wave-form mesh head with built-in pop filter

The Origin features Aston's signature wave-form mesh head which not only looks cool, but also provides rugged protection for the mic's internals. If subjected to a forceful ding, the shock-resistant wave-form grille allows the head of the mic to distort, then return to its normal position without damage. It also offers a measure of off-axis rejection, helping to diminish unwanted ambient sound. Built into the wave-form head is a mesh-knit pop filter that eliminates plosives in vocal performances. This single-piece mesh cage is made of stainless steel, so it's rustproof; you can even remove and wash it!

Unique chassis and end cap design

Did we mention how striking this mic looks? To achieve its hard-wearing, eye-catching finish, your Origin's chassis has been tumbled individually for up to four hours, with the engraving applied afterward. A custom-molded end cap with integrated XLR and built-in, interchangeable mic stand thread adapter is another unique aspect of the design. In light of the mic's superior onboard shock absorption, you can mount it directly to a mic stand - which also makes it easy to repair and maintain.

Flippin' incredible for the price.

The Aston Martin of Mics

This microphone is absolutely phenomenal! I did an initial benchmark test with my first condenser mic (Focusrite Scarlett Studio Mic) ever and this and the thing is both mics were pretty similar in frequency response and overall tone, but the Origin was just much smoother overall. No harshness to it whatsoever! My benchmark only included vocals because that's all I record at this point in time, but still even tonight I re tracked a song a client/friend of mine tracked about a month ago on my old condenser with the Aston and I tracked with an 1176 style compressor on my input channel in Cubase and wow, the vocals were pretty much finished on the way in. This is the best mic I've used so far in my career. This mic is overall beautiful looking and actually high quality manufacturing. This microphone could actually be sold for so much higher price with the quality of it tonally and construction.

Great Mic For The Price!

This mic is wonderful. Especially at the price point of $250. It has such an incredibly natural sound. The high pass switch and pad are a plus. I know it has a built in pop filter, but I would suggest still using a pop filter with this mic. I use this mic for vocals. To my ears it is A1. To my clients ears it is A1. When i tell them how much it costs, their eyes nearly pop out of their heads. Great build quality is a plus with this mic also. Every one is on a budget nowdays especially when it comes to music making. Look no further, get yourself one of these bad boys and call it a day!

Truly Awesome Sound

Just got 2 of these mics on recommendation of Anthony Jenkins my Sweetwater rep and wow, they sound great for VO. I will be using them for a show about Voice-Acting and they will be the two mics in the booth for me and the guest and they really have a great natural sound, very clean, and for the price truly something to consider for anyone looking for a solid affordable VO mic! I'm usually using a Neumann TLM 103 or a Gefell UM70 and this stands right next to them as clear, bright and great resonance. Amazing value, terrific sound. Thanks Sweetwater for carry these and my best to Aston!

Truly amazing microphone

Microphones are tools - use the best one for the job and forget price, looks, and image. The first session on which I used my new Origin was a hip-hop vocal. I was stunned by how great it sounded - rich but not over hyped low mids, no harshness in the highs, pretty much a perfect vocal sound immediately. Very little eq needed. In my mic locker I have quite a few if the standard very expensive LDCs, and the Origin just became the first pick for male vocals. The old adage about being as good as mics ten times or more the price is true in this case, on the sources I've used it on. Highly recommended!
