Expressive Wavetable Synthesis that Fits in Your Pocket

The 1010music Nanobox Fireball synthesizer module combines polyphonic wavetable synthesis with touchscreen X/Y control in a fun and functional portable format. You have all the connectivity you need to interface with your MIDI controllers, sequencers, and DAW software. You can use the professionally developed WAV files as your starting point, or load your own WAV files via microSD card to create your own signature synth sounds. Either way, you’ll be able to generate complex pads, growling basses, animated soundscapes, and much more. For a fresh take on wavetable synthesis that’s easily approachable, the 1010music Nanobox Fireball is red hot.

Powerful synth engine

Don't let its compact format fool you: the 1010music Nanobox Fireball boasts an impressive and flexible synth engine. You can simultaneously engage two wavetable oscillators plus an additional oscillator, with 8-voice polyphony; you can also shape your sounds with two filters, two envelopes, two LFOs, and one modulation sequencer. For final polish, tap into six built-in effects: flanger, distortion, chorus, phaser, delay, and reverb. What’s more, the Nanobox Fireball is easy to navigate and control from the front panel, and its touchscreen can be used as an X/Y pad to manipulate your sounds on the fly.

Ready to fit your workflow

While its rugged, portable nature makes it perfect for creative sound-design sessions practically anywhere, Sweetwater musicians love that the Nanobox Fireball offers comprehensive connectivity for studio applications. MIDI In and Out are supported via mini TRS connections, as well as connectivity for line-level audio in and out — a clock input is also available for synchronizing with analog clock signals, too. No matter what your music production workflow looks like, the 1010music Nanobox Fireball will fit like a glove.

Reviews

Powerful polysynth in a small form factor. Does something nothing else in my setup does as well.
This little wave-table synth is a wonderful addition to my setup. In addition to all the presets, the fact that every patch uses two wavetables gives one a huge universe of possibilities for sound design. Take an existing patch, and change on of the wavetables. Change the mod assignment. Because it has eight voices of polyphony it is a great partner with the Hydrasynth, giving me a bi-timbral option. For my setup, it gives me another polysynth with a small form factor and which easily produces the sort of sounds which are much more difficult (though not impossible) with the Hydrasynth. The one drawback which I found is that when changing patches there is sometimes a burst of noise.

The entire Nanobox Line are (nearly) perfect little synths to supplement your setup.
The heart of my setup is a Hydrasynth Explorer a Drumbrute Impact, and a Keystep Pro. For live jamming I often use an RC-505 mk II looper, and for recording I use one of a variety of too many digital recorders. I go almost entirely DAWless, with the exception of using Audacity for final assembly of tracks.
All of the Nanoboxes are just plain fun to use – they are small, brightly colored, portable (especially with the battery pack add on.) When I have insomnia, or will be waiting somewhere, I grab one and a headset and listen to presets, start building my own patches etc. I have fairly fat fingers, but find that for just noodling around (and building patches) the controls are perfectly usable. Although there is a moderate amount of menu diving, it is very logical.
Music background: Decades of listening, classical training, keyboard-centric, three years of noodling on synthesizers.
Great Little Synth
Watched a few reviews online when the Nanobox modules were announced.
They both appeared to be impressive in their functionality and I knew I had to get one.
The presets are good and seem to show off how use that functionality, having them on and using a microSD card (included!) a great design.
I also like the included effects and with a good pair of headphones they sound fantastic.

I decided on the Fireball and when my unit arrived, I was not disappointed!
So many features crammed into this AMAZING little box, and I LOVE that touchscreen and the fact only a couple of encoders & buttons are needed for the user interface.

Some people might think it is too small, but for myself, I wanted a VERY portable polyphonic synth that literally fits in a pocket.
At this point I have not connected up to anything other than my Novation LK Mini Mk3 controller & headphones which make for a perfect combo.
Both run off a small USB battery stick and allow me to take anywhere with ease.

Bottom line - I love it and have a feeling I'll be picking up it's Lemon Drop partner as soon as I can afford it!
Amazing, little, powerful, intuitive.
I don't write reviews as a rule, but I love this enough to make an exception. I'm a bassist who was looking for a small midi synth unit to control with my bass pedals for live use. I'm not a sound designer or synth programmer, so I wanted something intuitive where I could do some basic filter and envelope tweaks from the console, and the Fireball delivers. I didn't know what wavetable synthesis was prior to my purchase, but it was pretty easy to learn. I'd even go so far as to say that if you watch Sweetwater's demo video on this, you probably don't even need to read the manual to get going. It's so intuitive that if you know the very basics of synthesis, you're good to go. Just know that wavetables add one more dimension to control over a basic wave shape. For example, you can morph between a pure sine and a filtered square wave, if that is what is written into the wavetable file. I love that feature. I also love the form factor. This thing is small! I'd love to see a sampler version in the same form factor that could play loops and samples for live shows.
No program change...
I love this thing, but folks have been asking for over a year for MIDI program change, which really should have been there from the start. It's necessary for live performance. I wish I didn't have to return it, but that's a dealbreaker for me.

Otherwise it's a great little synth for adding some interesting sounds to your setup. If you don't play live it would be nice, but I already have several wavetable VSTs in the studio setting.
