Vocal Clarity for Big Concert Venues

Large, untreated venues are notorious for causing mix mud and feedback. That's why Sweetwater was happy to see Electro-Voice address this issue in its ND86. This stage mic has a smooth, detailed presence that's designed to cut through the boom of a large room and deliver the performer's every word to the audience's ears. Just as with the ND76, this mic has a modern EQ curve with vivid high-end detail and superb gain before feedback. Both performers and sound engineers will be pleased with the ND86's drop-weathering Memraflex grille and noise-rejecting internal shockmount. Whether you run sound in a large venue or routinely perform in one, Sweetwater recommends the Electro-Voice ND86.

The Electro-Voice ND series picks up where N/DYM left off

For years, EV's N/DYM series of live and studio dynamic microphones have been a beacon of hope to us low-enders and live-sounders. And now Electro-Voice promises to deliver even better performance with its EV ND collection. This line includes eight new vocal, drum, amp, and instrument mics to cover a wide range of stage and studio needs. Beneath the dent-resistant Memraflex grilles are redesigned large-diaphragm capsules with humbucking coils and internal shockmounts to capture a rich, musical sound with low noise - all on a budget. When you need dependable performance on a workingman's income, Sweetwater sound professionals encourage you to check out Electro-Voice ND microphones.

Reviews

Best kept secret!
I used the ND 767 for years. I actually had one of the first ones that came out. It will blow an SM 58 out of the water. Now the ND series they have now is even better. I have used the ND 86 for a few years. I usually replace my vocal mic ever 2 years. I've had mine much longer that that and thought I'd get a new one. I had the idea to try another mic. SO... I tried the Sure KSM8. OMG... I could not even get it to sound good enough to even try it. I put my old ND86 back on the cradle and hit the old CHECK ONE TEWWW... I the thing lit up like it was on fire!!! Man.. The ND86 needs very little EQ if any. Just your personal taste.. This is a freaking awesome mike. I sing mainly country.. and old rock. This mic will reach in and pull your voice out... It has a lot of articulation.. clear, crisp.. but yet has a lot of balls to it.. I have recommended these mic's to a lot of people over the years... EVERY person has loved it!!! If you can sing.. you will love it as well... Enjoy....

One of the Very Best Absolutely love it!

Puts it through!
I bought one a few years ago and wound up buying another a year ago and have not regretted my decision after using them for small and larger venues and mainly for "weak vocals" and they definitely put the vocals through loud and clear with plenty of wiggle room to work your mix!
An outstanding buy in my opinion...

Higher EQ
Higher EQ than the Sennheiser 835 which I love, but the ND86 is cleaner and has more compressed, but I use both mics. I use ND86 for delicate songs that need a lot of expression and lower voice volume --BUT there is another advantage -- there's a few songs that I use it for an acoustic mic, which I found out by mistake rehearsing one day, thinking that I was plugged (Martin OM28) in but wasn't, and had just the ND86 on only. I said: my guitar is sounding good today, only to find out later that I was not plugged in at all and the ND86 in the vocal position!! So, I pointed the ND86 in several positions but found that it likes it pointed / slanted just behind the bridge, not in front of the sound hole. I saw Niele Young use a mic that way too. The Sennheiser rolls off better, so I use it for singing in the normal voice mode.
