Four Killer Kick Tones!

The M82 dynamic microphone expands Telefunken's lineup with a purpose-built kick drum mic any live or studio engineer can appreciate. Outfitted with an oversized 1.37" moving-coil diaphragm, the M82 provides you with superb low-frequency response. But, although Telefunken designed it for kick drums, this fat and punchy mic is also ideal for bass cabinets, voiceover work, and many other applications. On top of that, there's a switchable Kick EQ filter and a separate switchable High Boost function onboard the Telefunken M82, giving you four distinct sounds in one microphone.

Telefunken M82 Dynamic Instrument Microphone at a Glance:

  • Perfect for more than just kick drums

  • Cut out boxiness with flip of a switch
  • Boost your highs for better beater attack
Perfect for more than just kick drums

Although Telefunken specifically designed their M82 with kick drum in mind, this large-diaphragm dynamic instrument microphone it great for a wide range of other sources as well. Its large 1.37" moving coil diaphragm naturally responds smoothly to punchy and dynamic bass-heavy sources. When you stick an M82 on a bass cabinet or organ, you'll instantly hear the full depth of the bottom end, without losing full-range details, and it does absolute wonders with lower-register male vocals and voiceover work.

Cut out boxiness with flip of a switch

Real professional engineers know that it's always better to get the highest quality sound right at the source than to fix it in post. That's why Telefunken built a special Kick EQ switch into the M82 instrument microphone. This switch lets you instantly notch frequencies around 350Hz out of the M82, removing the flabby and boxy sound that can make your kick drum sound fall flat.

Boost your highs for better beater attack

Need a little more beater click to fill out your kick sound? Don't reach for the EQ - stitch on the M82's High Boost mode, and you'll get all the top-end definition you need. Not only will this built-in 2kHz shelving boost bring out beater attack, it also provides a noticeable presence boost that adds clarity to vocals, definition to organ percussion, and air to slap bass. Its just one more reason why the Telefunken M82 instrument microphone is such a great addition to any mic locker.

Telefunken M82 Dynamic Instrument Microphone Features:

  • Large-diaphragm cardioid dynamic microphone built to deliver massive kick-drum sound

  • Ideal for use with kick drums, bass cabinets, deep voiceover/vocals, and other bass-heavy sources
  • Oversized 1.37" moving-coil diaphragm provides powerful low-frequency response
  • Kick EQ switch lets you notch filter out frequencies around 350Hz to remove boxiness
  • High Boost switch lets you amplify 2kHz and up by 6dB for added high-end clarity and beater attack
  • Housed in a super-rugged shell and headgrille for maximum durability

Reviews

Excellent Vocal Microphone!
With the treble boost switch engaged, my baritone voice is full and well balanced from low end, mids, to high end. Well controlled plosives and handling noise. I'd buy again.

Very solid kick mic!
At first, I wasn't sure if this sounded better than my previous go-to on kick. But after much more use, I can say with confidence that I really dig this mic. The low-mid notch and treble switches are extremely useful, but what I like on this mic is the overall response is fairly smooth, and it can capture mids very nicely opening it up to wider applications than just kick. It sounds good for modern as well as more vintage kick tones. It's a little like a beefier RE20 with no switches in, just a hair off the top end. With the switches it starts to approach modern scooped/hyped tones. I find the versatility to be worth it. Hell it even sounds good as a podcast vocal mic. Can easily recommend it
A Versatile Kick Mic
While $ might seem a bit steep for a kick drum microphone – especially when they're are a million different low-end dynamic mics on the market, all mostly useable – what truly sets the M82 apart from some of the others is its versatility. This microphone is essentially like buying 2-3 different microphones in one.

The EQ switches built into the M82 might be overlooked as a basic feature, but what this does is give you a simple option for drastically changing the attack, body, and resonance of the bass drum you're tracking. While some mics certainly have basic EQ features built in as well, the curves and diaphragm response on the M82 give the impression of a different mic––you're not just putting a curve on a source, it actually sounds like you're switching between a D6 to an e602 to a RE20. Considering the kick sound is often the second or third most important element in a track, why not spend a bit more and give yourself that versatility?

And like all Telefunken products, this one is built sturdy, definitely capable of surviving a beating in a working studio or on the road.

Love this mic!
While I really don't like the "pre scooped" vibe of many kick mics, the tone shaping switches on the M82 are useful, musical, and right on the money. This mic sounds great. It's built like a German tank, and is really useful on many other applications. Great on kick, floor tom, bass, voiceover. And when I say great, I mean it outshines many of my go to mics I've been reaching for throughout a lot of years. There are still many sources I've yet to try it on, but I'm a happy convert!

Effortless and Amazing
Finally got to use this last week, I plugged it in positioned it in the hole of the kick drum and the sound was just amazing... I couldn't believe it was that great with no adjustment. Money well spent.
