A Small-body Acoustic with Massive Gibson Tone

This Gibson Acoustic 1933 L-00 Murphy Lab is a lightly aged re-creation of a historic stripped-down, small-body acoustic with a full-sized Gibson sound. This excellent instrument boasts a thermally aged red spruce top, yielding a punchy, direct sound with near-endless headroom, along with a beautifully resonant mahogany back and sides and period-correct hot hide glue construction. This L-00 is the perfect choice for acoustic blues; that said, its super-comfortable "Historic" mahogany neck and its easy-feeling rosewood fingerboard accommodate the full gamut of genres and playing styles. This flat-top, small-body acoustic sports eye-catching multi-ply top binding and a multi-ply rosette, understated dot fingerboard inlays, and an aged white pickguard. Moreover, the nitrocellulose lacquer finish on this 1933 L-00 replica was treated in Gibson Acoustic's Bozeman, Montana-based shop using the same aging techniques used on Gibson Custom Murphy Lab guitars.

The legendary L-00

Whether you think of it as a "parlor guitar" or a "blues box," this easy-playing 1933 L-00 Murphy Lab is perfect for recording and acoustic jams. In the studio, aim a small-diaphragm condenser mic at the 12th fret, and you're all set for a sweet acoustic tone that will hold its own in a thick arrangement. This guitar's diminutive size and narrow waist deliver a focused sound that sits great in your track, while its generous lower bout serves up a surprisingly robust bottom end. And with its aged nitrocellulose lacquer finish and aged white pickguard, all eyes will be on you when you take the stage with this L-00.

Thermally aged red spruce top

The thermal-aging process, also called torrefaction, that Gibson uses on their acoustics removes moisture and other impurities from the tonewoods they use in their builds. The result is a more vintage, aged tone: opulent, deep, and balanced, and it will only improve with time! In addition to improving tone, torrefaction also enhances this Gibson Acoustic 1933 L-00 Murphy Lab's durability. Guitarists love what torrefaction does to enhance the sound of quality tonewoods like those used in this 1933 L-00 build.

Classic Gibson craftsmanship

From humble beginnings in Kalamazoo, Michigan, back in the late 1800s to present-day Bozeman, Montana, Gibson Acoustic has been making some of the finest acoustic instruments on the planet for generations. When you pick up this 1933 L-00 Murphy Lab, you know you're getting the finest tonewoods, quality hardware, and incredible attention to detail. Scores of guitarists here at Sweetwater are Gibson devotees, and like all of the quality instruments Gibson builds, this 1933 L-00 was made to sound great and stand the test of time.
