A Katana for Bass is Finally Unsheathed

Bass players rejoice: the incredible sound and flexibility of the BOSS Katana series has entered the low-end realm with the Katana-110 Bass Combo Amp! This 110W peak (60W continuous RMS), 1 x 10-inch combo serves as an all-in-one bass amp for both stage and studio use, with a trio of amp types alongside powerful tone-shaping tools to nail any sound imaginable. With the Katana-110 Bass combo's built-in Comp and Drive controls, you can leave the pedals at home, with FX1/FX2 controls unlocking an even wider range of BOSS-inspired effects. And while this amp packs more than enough power to handle small- to mid-sized venues, onboard attenuation in the form of a Power Control takes you down to 1-watt operation for quieter playing without tonal compromises, as well as a cab-sim-equipped USB and Phones/Rec Out for silent practice sessions. Pair this impressive combo with the BOSS Tone Studio editor, and your sonic options become near limitless — anchor your bass setup with the ultra-versatile BOSS Katana-110 Bass Combo Amp!

Three incredible bass amps in one

Much like the Katana line's other offerings, the BOSS Katana-110 Bass places a strong emphasis on versatility, arming you with three unique amp voicings alongside a wealth of tone-shaping tools and effects. Swapping between voicings is a cinch, with a single knob going from the full-bodied warmth of Vintage to the punch and clarity of Modern and even a Flat option allowing your instrument's organic tone to shine through. Once you find that ideal amp type, a powerful Shape function toggles between three distinct tone characters — mid-scoop, bright, and extended range — with a Pad button next door for some attenuation if need be. Need some additional sonic tweaking? A 4-band EQ with selectable low- and high-mid frequency controls is fully prepared to fine-tune your tone with surgical precision.

All the FX you need built right in

Apart from its studio- and stage-worthy tone, the Katana-110 Bass boasts a quartet of independent effect sections for adding some additional depth and character to your sound. Its Input EFX section sports Comp and Drive buttons with a single knob to dial in the perfect amount of compression and saturation. Sweetwater bassists appreciate the convenience of having these critical tools built right in, made even better with an expansive Effects section that accesses a wide range of additional stomp-style effects for crafting your signature sound.

Cab-emulated output for silent recording and performance

While the Katana-110 Bass offers a Power Control for getting cranked-amp tone at a low volume level, you can achieve truly silent operation onstage or in the studio. Cab emulation is available via the USB and headphone/recording output. However you choose to monitor your Katana-110 Bass, it'll feel like you're standing in front of an amp.

Powered by the BOSS Tone Studio

The Katana-110 Bass supports a variety of timeless BOSS effects, with deep customization to further enhance and define your sound using the BOSS Tone Studio software. Simply connect the Katana-110 Bass to your computer via USB, load up Tone Studio, and you're well on your way to creating your own setup. Need some inspiration? Download any of the premade setups created by pro guitarists for a solid tonal starting point. Best of all, the Katana-110 Bass can store multiple custom amp and effects profiles for instant recall, making this combo a versatile multichannel amplifier.

This little amp is the boss!
I played two rehearsals with the Katana-110 Bass. One with a very loud Classic Rock band. I wanted to see how it would do. I'm very happy report it was stellar! It had plenty of power and punch. See settings in the photo. The Master Volume is only at 10 o'clock and it was plenty loud. The 210 version must be amazing if the 60w 110 can do what it does. I'm an older player with many years of experience. The 110 is a wonderful investment for what it does and the role I want it to fill. The ability to connect it to a computer or phone is a big plus. You're able to see your settings in detail and make edits to your liking. There are 6 banks so you can create settings for different basses you might use with it. A lot of the great Boss effect pedals are built in! Crazy, right? Trying it in the studio is next. I have a feeling I won't be disappointed.

Excellent after swapping out speaker
I bought the Boss Katana 110B because it had the better sound between it and Fender Rumble Studio 40. It sounds great and low volume but the speaker started to distort at 1/4 volume. I swapped out the 60W speaker for Eminence Legend BP102 400W 8 Ohm. And OMG now it is so smooth. I can almost go full volume without the speaker giving out. And the sound is deep and rich. And the amp still has headroom.

Glad I tried it
This is a fun little amp with many of the same effects as the boss gt 1b multi effects pedal. It also gets pretty loud for a 10 inch speaker. After looking at Ampeg and fender around the same size I decided to try this one. I'd say this amp is a bit overpriced. It's a good bit heavier than other 10 inch speaker amps(but it is built like a tank) honestly my biggest problem with it is that the speaker is naturally distorted even with no effects on at all. So that is a bit disappointing. I'd say if you already have effect pedals you use you won't find anything game changing here and you'd be better off with a cheaper lighter amp. Still glad I tried it but I'll probably sell it eventually to be honest.

Great versatile combo - perfect for home practice
The katana 110 combo is my go-to amp for at-home practice. With the 1W power mode, it can get nice and quiet if you want to avoid disturbing others, but turn it up to full power and it gets surprisingly loud - louder than my Rumble 100 even though the Katana has less wattage. The Vintage, Flat, and Modern shaping offers a lot of versatility in tone, and the built-in compressors, overdrives, and dozens of effects (chorus, delay, reverb, octave, env filter, phaser, harmonizer) gives you plenty to play around with and stave off the GAS.

The clarity in sound and amount of volume you can get from this small combo is astounding to me. I love the baked-in sound of my Rumble for sure, but it's hard to escape that sound and get something more transparent. In the Katana 110 however, not only can you achieve an equivalent to that rumble sound, you can also get a flat sound, or a really modern amp sound if you want. The 110 also has a tweeter - even though I rarely use it, it helps give you a more full-range sound (perfect if you're playing audio through it - see below).

The blend knob on here is one of my favorite things - you can choose how much you want to hear your clean bass sound vs the bass with FX. Can really help you cut through.

I definitely recommend getting the BT-Dual bluetooth adapter if you buy a Katana bass amp, because it opens its capabilities up even more: stream audio from your phone or tablet, play along with music or a backing track, and change the settings (and defaults) for any of the dozens of built in effects.

I also play my keyboards (Yamaha P-125 & Yamaha Reface CP) through this and they sound great - I don't play guitar at all, but chords sound beautiful coming from my 5 string high C bass through this combo. I've played both the bass and keyboard through this at smaller gigs and with my community concert band, and it does exactly what I need it to do.

My favorite amp of all time...
So many small combos just don't sound that good. With some pedals you can get it to sound OK. I wanted a small 1-10 combo for portability, but still wanted a decent sound quality. I tried many at local music stores and just wasn't satisfied. Logan W., my Sweetwater sales engineer suggested the Boss Katana 110. It was only sightly more expensive than most other 1-10 with 50 watts of power. The second I plugged in and hit a note, I knew this was it. With no pedals, it sounds great. So good that when I need more power, I used the XLR output to send signal to my Aguilar Tone Hammer. Still, no pedals needed. The phone output sounds great, but it cuts out the speaker. The XLR with a Lo-to=hi impedance transformer (also from Sweetwater) does the trick. My Specotor Ethos 5 (also from Sweetwater) sounds great. It seems to be more powerful than 60 watts, even the B string. Most everything in the photo came from Sweetwater, except the trash can!
