Vintage-style Appointments with Big Sound

The Martin HD-28V dreadnought acoustic guitar boasts the same design that made the D-28 a classic - herringbone top trim, traditional zig-zag backstripe, and Martin's time-tested scalloped X-bracing. Used in all styles of music, the HD-28V offers the deep bass response that's made Martin dreadnoughts so popular. Yet it also has a high-end presence that sings out even in heavy instrumentation. You'll love the gorgeous sound of the classic tonewood combination of sitka spruce top and rosewood back and sides. The Martin HD-28V is both loud and subtle, and has a quick response with excellent note definition.

Premium Martin craftsmanship

The HD-28V is Martin's premium dreadnought, considered by many guitarists to be the finest sounding guitar Martin has ever made, period. With a solid Sitka spruce top, solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, lined with the traditional zig-zag purfling on the back, this Martin HD-28V is a beautiful, immaculately designed acoustic guitar. The select wood neck boasts a black ebony 20-fret fingerboard with diamond and square fingerboard inlays. Beautiful with its vintage-styled belly bridge, and classic tortoise pickguard, the HD-28V stays in tune with Gotoh Nickel open geared tuners - complete with stylish butterbean knobs.

The all-time standard for acoustics

Among the great instruments Martin makes, it's safe to say that none has enjoyed more popularity than their line of dreadnoughts, or D-size, guitars. Currently regarded as the "standard" acoustic guitar, dreadnoughts including the D-28 first became popular for backing up vocals, fiddles, and banjos in country and bluegrass music. The D-28's popularity steadily rose as more and more musicians heard it.

Spruce-topped rosewood gives you timeless acoustic sound

You just can't beat the sound of solid spruce and solid genuine rosewood. For such an affordable guitar, the Martin HD-28V spares no expense on its tonewoods. You'll love the crisp sound of the HD-28V's solid East-Indian rosewood back and sides, and they look fantastic. What's more, the HD-28V is topped with solid Sitka spruce, adding rich and mellow overtones. When you imagine what an acoustic guitar is supposed to sound like, this is it!

Keeps getting better!

Bought a Martin HD-28V and it is amazing. The instrument has so much voice. I am getting so many great tones from this guitar compared to any other guitar a have played. Extremely happy with how Bret made the instrument transaction so seamless.

My Martin HD-28V

I've owned Ds from Guild, Taylor, and a Martin D-18, and nothing compares to the sound of this guitar. I've had it for about 10 years now and it sounds even better all of the time. You can play it soft and mellow, or hard and loud, and it always fits the mood perfectly. Incidentally, when I bought it I was switching back and forth with a standard D-28, and the difference was extraordinary. For another few hundred bucks (you're already in the thousands anyway) I had the choice between a lifetime guitar and another guitar that I would just be unhappy with again. No regrets here. I would very much recommend sitting down at a high end music store and doing the same thing I did, just so you know what you're getting. You will not be disappointed.

HD-28V

This is an absolutely GREAT guitar. I bought mine in 2006 for my 50th birthday. This guitar is getting better each year since. You can play almost any genre of music on this guitar and sound great doing it. You cannot go wrong with a Martin guitar. It only appreciates in time and also it is a great investment piece. I would highly recommend this model for Flatpickers in Bluegrass and Country styles of music. Get one and you will not regret the investment!

Martin HD-28V

I started out on the Taylor 114CE which is a very nice guitar but I soon began to realize the style of music I really wanted to play wasn't going to sound the way it should on the Taylor . I Started to learn to play in November of last . My focus is Blue Grass and Folk and having that punch that the martin does has really helped me want to practice even more . The modified V neck fits my hand perfectly . My sales engineer Gregg was so much help in my decision . He brought me as many guitars to try for comparison as I asked for plus a few .Bottom line I love this guitar and I can't say enough good about Sweetwater.

A Classic Martin

If Martin Guitars are among your favorites, you will love this one. Everything about the craftsmanship, looks and playability are outstanding. The V neck has taken some time for me to get accustomed to, but as time passes I like it better and better. This is also a very loud guitar and as I deciding between a Gibson Hummingbird Elite and this one I found this to be much louder, with a darker, warmer tone, although I really liked the Hummingbird also. Normally to me the Martins have a richer tone, but can be a little heavy on the bass and somewhat lacking on the treble. This one is very well balanced with nice treble registers, but is not too bassy. I have only owned it for a couple of months, but it has become one of my favorites. This guitar will not be for everyone, especially if you lean more toward the Taylor shimmery sound, but for those who like a warm sounding, well balanced guitar that is easy to play in multiple styles, then this could be an excellent choice. It is also very nice to look at. Sales engineer Greg in the Sweetwater showroom knows a lot about this guitar from personal experience, so give him a call.
